Over 2-5 years the HEPA filter becomes clogged with particulates. Significant air flow reductions occur which decrease the air filter efficiency. Replace the cartridge when inspection shows significant aculation of dirt and dust. Also replace the HEPA filter when a HEPA air filtration unit has sat idle for more than 3 to 5 days. When moisture collects in HEPA filters, bacteria, mold and virusses can grow. A constant flow of air keeps the HEPA dry and free of such pollutants.
